Two things lock people out of a smart lock in Kuwait, and each has one answer. Flat batteries: put power into the lock's USB-C port from any phone power bank, and the keypad runs long enough to open the door. A new flat whose previous tenant's fingerprints are still stored, and nobody has the old admin code: use the physical reset button on the lock itself, then set your own admin code before you enrol anybody.
Everything below applies to all seven keypad locks in the table further down this page, because they are all set up through the same phone app and the same menu on the lock, so one procedure covers every model. If you are not locked out and simply want the full factory reset sequence, our guide to resetting a smart lock is the page for that job.
Flat batteries: a power bank and a USB-C cable
This is the common one, and the thing that turns it into a real problem is arriving at your own front door with the wrong cable.
-
Take a phone power bank and a USB-C cable to the door. Any phone power bank will do.
-
Plug the cable into the lock's USB-C contact.
-
Enter your code, or use your fingerprint, as normal. The lock is running off the power bank.
-
Open the door.
-
Deal with the power before you close the door again. Put the lock back on its own power while you are standing on the inside, not after it has shut behind you.
The line to act on: keep a power bank and a USB-C cable in the car. A lock with no power is a five minute problem if you have the cable and an evening if you do not. What each model records about its own power and emergency route is set out model by model in our guide to smart lock power, users and Wi-Fi, and each lock's own product page lists what else comes in the box.
Moved into a flat and the old tenant's fingerprints are still in the lock
This is the other half of the problem, and it is the one where people waste the most time. You have just moved in. The lock still holds somebody else's fingerprints. You never had the admin code, so you cannot delete them from the menu, and you cannot delete them from the app either, because the app only lets an admin do that.
The answer is the physical reset button on the lock. Not the app, and not an admin-code menu: both of those need a credential you were never given. The reset button is the one route into a lock whose admin code belongs to somebody who has moved out.
-
Open the door first and keep it open. Everything that follows happens with the door standing open.
-
Press the physical reset button on the lock to clear what is stored, following the sequence in your lock's own manual.
-
Set your own admin code immediately. The lock will not let you add a fingerprint until an admin code exists.
-
Enrol the fingerprints and codes you want, one person at a time.
-
Test every method with the door open before you close it.
The step-by-step reset itself, and what a reset clears, is covered in how to reset a smart lock. This page is about which of the routes applies when you are the one standing outside.
Set your admin code on day one
One sentence removes most of what is above. Enrolment needs an admin code, so set yours the day the lock goes on the door and keep a record of it. Every fingerprint, every user code and every phone you add later goes through that one credential. A landlord who sets it and keeps it, and a tenant who never has it, is the exact situation that sends somebody to a reset button two years later.
Wrong code a few times? The lock stops answering for a few minutes
Enter the wrong code repeatedly and the lock locks out the keypad for a few minutes, then allows you to try again. Nothing is broken and nothing needs resetting. Wait it out; pressing more keys does not shorten it.
Use those minutes to get the power bank out of the car rather than to look for a reset sequence on your phone.
One app and one on-lock menu for all seven locks
You do not need a different procedure per model. These seven locks are all configured through the same phone app with the same menu on the lock itself, which is why one page can cover the whole range. Each price is the lowest listed price on that product today.
| Lock | Unlocking methods the listing states | Lowest listed price |
| QL811 | Fingerprint, code, key card, app | 25.000 KD (Tuya Smart version) |
| F11s | Fingerprint, code, key card, app, Wi-Fi | 30.000 KD |
| K9 | Fingerprint, code, key card, app, Wi-Fi | 32.000 KD |
| Glass door lock | Fingerprint, code, key card, app, Wi-Fi | 35.000 KD |
| A9x | Face recognition, fingerprint, code, key card, app over Bluetooth | 55.000 KD |
| J04 | Face recognition, fingerprint, code, key card, app, Wi-Fi | 65.000 KD |
| X6 | Face ID, fingerprint, code, key card, app, Wi-Fi | 65.000 KD |
One caveat, read off the listings rather than assumed: the QL811 is sold in two versions that use two different apps, and which one you have is written in the variant name on its own product page. If your QL811 does not appear in the app the rest of the range uses, that is why. Every other lock in the table is a single version.
The full range of fourteen listed models is in the smart door locks collection, and the price ladder across it is set out in what a smart lock costs in Kuwait.
When to stop and call the shop
Three situations are worth a phone call rather than another half hour on the doorstep: the lock has no power and you have no USB-C cable; the reset button has cleared the lock and the keypad still will not take an admin code; or the lock is loose in the door and the bolt is catching.
That last one is usually a fitting problem rather than a lock problem. Installation at Bab Al-Saif is 7.000 to 20.000 KD, and every model needs some preparation of the door, which the fee covers. What the work involves is described in our guide to installing a smart lock, and which models suit an aluminium door is covered in smart locks for aluminium doors in Kuwait.
The showroom is at Shuwaikh Plaza, Khalifa Al-Jassim Street, Shuwaikh Industrial, and you can bring the lock in.
What we will not print, and why
Not one of the seven lock listings on this site records a button sequence, a hold time, a beep pattern or a menu position. Those come from your lock's own manual and from the app, and a sequence copied off a page about somebody else's model is simply a run of wrong entries, which is how people end up waiting out a lockout they caused themselves. The same goes for battery life: the seven locks do not run on one kind of power, so there is no single figure to quote, and this page quotes none.
Key takeaways
-
Flat batteries: USB-C from any phone power bank. Keep both in the car.
-
Previous tenant's fingerprints: the physical reset button on the lock, not the app.
-
Set your admin code on day one. Enrolment needs it, and that is where lockouts start.
-
Wrong entries lock the keypad for a few minutes, then it lets you retry.
-
One app, one on-lock menu, seven models, with the QL811 two app versions as the thing to check.
-
Fitting is 7.000 to 20.000 KD and covers the door preparation every model needs.
Conclusion
Being locked out of a keypad lock feels like a hardware failure and is almost never one. It is a power problem or a credentials problem, and each has one route back in: the USB-C contact for the first, the physical reset button for the second. Set an admin code on the first day and you remove most of the second kind entirely.
If you are standing outside now and neither route has worked, contact us rather than forcing anything. If you are reading this before it happens, the useful next step is the cable in the car.
Frequently asked questions
How do I open my smart lock when the battery is dead?
Plug a phone power bank into the lock's USB-C contact with a USB-C cable. The lock runs off the power bank and you can then use your code or fingerprint as normal.
How do I remove the previous tenant's fingerprints from a smart lock?
Use the physical reset button on the lock. The app and the on-lock menu both need the old admin code, which a new tenant never has, so the button is the only route. Set your own admin code straight afterwards.
I forgot my smart lock admin code. What now?
The physical reset button clears what is stored and lets you start again with a new admin code. Do it with the door open.
What happens if someone keys in the wrong code repeatedly?
The lock stops answering the keypad for a few minutes and then allows retries.
Do I need a different app for each smart lock?
No. The seven locks in the table above use the same app and the same menu on the lock, so one set-up procedure covers all of them. The QL811 is listed in two app versions, which is printed on its variant name.
How much does smart lock installation cost in Kuwait?
7.000 to 20.000 KD. Every model needs some preparation of the door and the fee covers that work.
Can I get into my safe the same way?
No, a safe is a different job. An electronic safe is opened with its emergency key or its external power contact, and our page on a safe that will not open goes through it.
