Sandpaper, discs, belts and grinding wheels for taking a surface back. A 225 mm sandpaper sheet is 0.250 KD in four grits, a ten-piece set of waterproof black sheets is 1.000 KD in any grit from 120 up to 2000, fibre discs for an angle grinder start at 1.500 KD for 4 inch, and a grinding wheel is 4.950 KD. Most of it is held by the hundred, so one sheet and a workshop order are both no trouble.

Which one do you need?

Type Best for Price
Sandpaper sheets, 225 mm, in 80#, 120#, 220# and 320# Hand sanding wood, filler and old paint. The cheapest sheet here and the only one that covers 80 grit today, so this is the one for taking material off 0.250 KD a sheet
Red abrasive paper, set of 10 sheets, 120 grit Dry sanding timber and filler before a coat goes on. A ten-sheet set, so it suits a job rather than a touch-up 0.500 KD a set
Waterproof black abrasive paper, set of 10, eight grits from 120 to 2000 Wet sanding — metal, bodywork, between coats of paint or lacquer, and anything you want to take to a very fine grade. Same price at every grit 1.000 KD a set
Plastic sanding block, 210 × 105 mm Holding a sheet flat while you work it by hand. Keeps a flat surface flat, which fingers do not 1.250 KD
Fibre discs, 4 inch, grits 40 to 120 Angle grinder work on metal — weld dressing, rust, mill scale, paint off steel. Fits the commonest 4 inch grinder 1.500 KD
Fibre discs, 4.5 inch, grits 40, 100 and 120 The same job on a 4.5 inch grinder, which is the other common size 2.500 KD
Fibre discs, 7 inch, grits 60 to 120 Large flat areas — plate, tank sides, structural steel — where a 4 inch disc takes all day 4.250 KD
Abrasive sanding belt, 40", 60", 80" and 100" Bench and backstand sanders. Measure the belt off your machine before you buy — these are long belts and the four lengths are not interchangeable 5.000 KD
Grinding wheel, grey, 8 inch A bench grinder wheel for sharpening and shaping steel — chisels, drill bits, blades 4.950 KD
Grinding stone cup, white, 150 × 32 mm A cup-shaped stone for tool and cutter grinding, where the flat face of the cup does the work instead of the edge of a wheel 12.000 KD

Out of stock at the moment: one sandpaper sheet range in the P80 to P320 grades, and 80 grit in both the red and the black ten-piece sets. The 225 mm sheets still cover 80 grit at 0.250 KD. Ask us about availability on the rest.

What to check before buying

  • Work down the grits, do not jump. Start coarse enough to remove what you are removing, then step down. A rough rule is to roughly halve the number each time — 80, then 120, then 220, then 320. Skipping a step leaves the scratches from the coarse paper showing under the finish.
  • Dry or wet? The red and the 225 mm sheets are for dry work on timber, filler and paint. The black waterproof sheets are the ones you use with water, which is what you want on metal and bodywork — the water carries the dust away so the paper does not clog.
  • The waterproof set is one price at every grit. 1.000 KD whether you take 120 or 2000. So if you are going to need three grades, take three grades; the fine grades cost no more than the coarse ones.
  • Match the fibre disc to the grinder, not to the job. 4 inch, 4.5 inch and 7 inch are three different machines. Measure the guard on your grinder. A 7 inch disc on a 4.5 inch grinder is not a saving.
  • Use a block for anything flat. A sheet held in the hand follows the dips and makes them deeper. The 1.250 KD block is the difference between a flat panel and a wavy one, and it makes a 0.250 KD sheet last noticeably longer.
  • Sanding belts: measure the belt you are replacing. We stock 40, 60, 80 and 100 inch. These are bench and backstand lengths — they do not fit a handheld belt sander, which takes a much shorter belt. Bring the old belt or the machine's plate.
  • Grinding wheels need the right arbor and guard on your machine. If you are not sure what mounts on what, the backing pads and arbors are on power tool accessories, and it is worth asking before you fit anything to a grinder.
  • Buying for a workshop? Tell us the grades and the quantities rather than the product names. Contact us — the 225 mm sheets, the waterproof sets and the fibre discs are the three we hold deepest.

FAQs

How much is sandpaper in Kuwait?

0.250 KD for a single 225 mm sheet in 80#, 120#, 220# or 320#. A ten-sheet set of red paper in 120 grit is 0.500 KD, and a ten-sheet set of waterproof black paper is 1.000 KD in any grit from 120 up to 2000. A sanding block to hold them is 1.250 KD.

Which grit do I need?

80 for taking material off — stripping paint, levelling filler, rough timber. 120 for general preparation before a coat. 220 and 320 for smoothing between coats. Above that, 400 to 2000 in the waterproof set, which is wet-sanding territory for metal and bodywork. If you only buy two, buy 120 and 220.

Do these sheets fit a drywall or wall sander?

No, and it is worth saying plainly. Our sandpaper sheets are 225 mm and they are sheets. The foldable drywall sander we sell takes a 210 mm pad with a PSA self-adhesive backing, and we do not stock that disc at the moment. Ask us before you buy the machine if the abrasive matters to your job — the same goes for the belt sander, which takes a short 9 × 533 mm belt rather than the long bench belts listed above.

What is the difference between a fibre disc and a grinding wheel?

A fibre disc is a flexible coated disc that mounts on an angle grinder behind a backing pad and sands metal — 1.500 KD for 4 inch, 2.500 KD for 4.5 inch, 4.250 KD for 7 inch, in grits from 40 to 120. A grinding wheel is a solid bonded wheel for a bench grinder, for sharpening and shaping rather than sanding: 4.950 KD for the 8 inch grey wheel and 12.000 KD for the 150 × 32 mm white cup stone. For the machines themselves, see angle grinders and cutting machines.

Also useful: angle grinders and cutting machines for the tools these discs and wheels mount on, spray paint and spray guns, and paint equipment for the other half of a prep-and-paint job.
