What you get for what you spend

  • 3.500 KD — the 60 x 50 mm vice. Enough for small parts on a table, not enough for sawing steel.
  • 4.950–6.950 KD — either a pipe vice for plumbing, or the 4" cast-iron bench vice, which is the one most people should buy.
  • 10.500 KD — the same 4" jaw width, but on a 360° swivel base.
  • 13.500–24.500 KD — real metalwork: the 6" at 12 kg, or the 8" at 18 kg.

Buying tips

  • Jaw width is the size. A "4" vice" means 4" of jaw, not 4" of opening. Measure the widest thing you expect to hold and work from that.
  • Weight is not a side effect, it is the point. A light vice skips and rings when you hit the work. The 6" is 12 kg and the 8" is 18 kg, and that mass is what lets you saw and file against them.
  • Bolt it down before you use it. Every bench vice here is made to be bolted through the bench. Clamping it on temporarily wastes most of what you paid for.
  • Swivel base or fixed? A swivel base earns its extra 3.550 KD if you weld or file the same piece from several sides. For straight cutting and drilling, a fixed base is stiffer for less money.
  • Do not hold pipe in a flat-jaw vice. Flat jaws crush and oval it. A pipe vice has V-jaws that grip a round section — 4.950 KD for up to 60 mm, 6.950 KD for up to 80 mm.
  • Protect the work from the jaws. Hardened jaws mark soft metal, aluminium and finished wood. A folded piece of scrap aluminium or hardboard either side is enough.
  • Holding timber for gluing is not vice work. Use clamps — F, G and bar clamps from 0.950 KD — which spread the pressure across the joint instead of concentrating it in one spot.

Do you sell vice grips, the locking pliers?

Those are a different tool — a hand plier that locks shut, not a vice that bolts to a bench. See pliers, where locking pliers are 1.000 KD for the 10" adjustable one and 1.750 KD for the 10" reversible.

Which vice holds pipe for threading?

The pipe vice: 4.950 KD for pipe up to 60 mm, 6.950 KD for up to 80 mm (3"). Its V-shaped jaws grip a round section without flattening it, which a flat-jaw bench vice will do.

Also useful: the full hand tools range, clamps for holding glued and cut work, and pliers including locking pliers.
