  • 50 gsm, the light sheet: 2 x 3 m is 1.000 KD, 3 x 4 m is 1.500 KD, 5 x 5 m is 2.250 KD, 5 x 10 m is 3.750 KD, 10 x 10 m is 7.750 KD, 12 x 12 m is 10.750 KD and 15 x 15 m is 15.750 KD.

Which weight, and how much to buy

  • 50 gsm or 200 gsm? The 50 gsm sheet is for a weekend: shade over a tent, covering a pickup load, keeping dust off stored furniture. The 200 gsm sheet is four times the weight per square metre and is the one for a site, a roof or anything that has to last a Kuwait summer.
  • Buy one size up from the gap you are covering. You need overlap to tie down. A 3 x 3 m frame wants a 4 x 4 m sheet at 1.750 KD light or 4.750 KD heavy, not a 3 x 3 m.
  • The eyelets are where it fails. Tie through every eyelet, not every second one, and use rope rather than wire, which saws through the edge hem.
  • Gas canisters are not all the same thread. Bring your stove or heater burner, or a photo of the fitting, so we can match the canister at the counter.
  • Store canisters out of the sun. A butane canister in a closed car in a Kuwait July is the one thing not to do with it.

What is the difference between 50 gsm and 200 gsm?

Grams per square metre, so the 200 gsm sheet carries four times the material. It is thicker, stiffer and lasts far longer outdoors; the 50 gsm sheet is lighter to handle and costs about half as much in every size.

What size tarpaulin do I need for shade over a tent?
