Which hand dryer

Specifying a washroom

• Watts are the drying time. 1300 W suits an office or a small restaurant. The 1650 W K7BSS is the one for a mosque, a mall or a site washroom where there is a queue, because a faster dryer is what stops the queue forming.
• ABS or stainless steel? The 20.000 KD and 28.000 KD dryers share the same 1300 W motor; the 8.000 KD difference buys a stainless steel shell instead of ABS plastic. Stainless resists corrosion in a humid washroom and takes cleaning chemicals without clouding, which is why it is specified for public buildings.
• Count hands per hour, not people per day. One dryer serves a washroom where people arrive spread out. Two 1300 W units often beat one 1650 W unit where everyone washes at once, as they do at prayer times.
• Mount it where water will not pool. Fit the dryer away from the basin splash zone and at 1.1 to 1.2 m to the air outlet for adults, lower in a school.
• The soap dispenser needs no electrician. At 12.500 KD it runs on batteries and holds 1000 ml, so it mounts anywhere and is refilled rather than replaced.
• Hand dryers are wired, not plugged. All three take a fixed supply, so budget for an electrician unless there is already a point at the right height. See electrical hand tools.
