What you get for what you spend

  • 0.650–0.750 KD — a replacement bi-metal hacksaw blade, or the 165 mm wallboard saw.
  • 1.250–1.500 KD — a 12" hacksaw frame. Plain ABS handle or adjustable mini at 1.250 KD, arch tube at 1.450 KD, the stiffer frame at 1.500 KD.
  • 1.450–1.650 KD — a wood saw: 14" pruning saw 1.450 KD, 20" hand saw 1.550 KD, 300 mm back saw with mitre box 1.650 KD.
  • Around 2 KD — a frame and a spare blade together, which is how a hacksaw should be bought.
  • 80.000 KD — the 800 W band saw machine, if you are cutting the same piece over and over and a hand saw has stopped being sensible.

Buying tips

  • Wood saw or hacksaw? They are not interchangeable. A wood saw has large teeth that clear sawdust; a hacksaw holds a fine-toothed blade in a tensioned frame for metal. Using a wood saw on pipe ruins the teeth in one cut.
  • Buy the frame and a spare blade together. A hacksaw blade is the part that wears out, at 0.650 KD. Running a blunt blade is slower and bends the cut.
  • Tension the blade properly. A loose hacksaw blade wanders and snaps. Tighten until it rings when you flick it, and point the teeth forward, away from the handle.
  • Starting a cut in the middle of a panel? That is what the wallboard saw's pointed blade is for — you push it through the board and start sawing. A hand saw cannot begin a cut away from an edge.
  • Angled cuts need the box, not a steady hand. The back saw comes with a mitre box, which is the difference between a trim joint that closes and one that does not.
  • Green wood clogs fine teeth. Use the 14" pruning saw on branches, not the carpentry hand saw.
  • Working in a tight space? The adjustable mini frame lets you shorten the reach and cut close to a wall, where a full 12" frame will not fit.

FAQs

How much is a hand saw in Kuwait?

A 500 mm (20") wood hand saw is 1.550 KD. A 165 mm wallboard saw is 0.750 KD, a 300 mm back saw with a mitre box is 1.650 KD, and a 14" pruning saw is 1.450 KD. A 12" hacksaw frame for metal is 1.250–1.500 KD, with replacement blades at 0.650 KD.

Which saw cuts metal?

A hacksaw. Pick a 12" frame — 1.250 KD for the plain or adjustable mini version, 1.500 KD for the stiffer one — and fit a 300 x 12 mm bi-metal blade at 0.650 KD. For thicker steel sections or a lot of cuts, the 800 W band saw machine at 80.000 KD does the same job without the effort.

Should I buy a hand saw or an electric saw?

A hand saw is enough for a handful of cuts, costs 1.550 KD and needs no power on site. Once you are cutting all day, or need a straight repeatable cut, a machine pays for itself — see electric saws and cutting machines, and circular saw vs jigsaw if you are deciding between the two types.

Do you sell replacement hacksaw blades on their own?

Yes, the 300 x 12 mm (12" x 1/2") bi-metal blade at 0.650 KD, which fits all four 12" frames on this page. For cutting discs, hole saws and circular blades, see cutting discs, blades and hole saws.
