Sizes and what they cost
- Self-tapping: gauge 10 x 1 inch is 0.650 KD, gauge 6 x 1/2 inch is 0.750 KD, gauge 8 x 2 inch is 1.500 KD, and the longest, gauge 10 x 4 inch, is 2.250 KD.
- Self-drilling: truss head zinc gauge 8 x 1/2 inch is 2.250 KD, hex washer head zinc gauge 10 x 1 inch is 4.000 KD, and gauge 10 x 1 1/2 inch is 5.000 KD, which is the price ceiling on this page.
- Drywall: coarse black gauge 6 x 3/4 inch is 2.250 KD, coarse black gauge 8 x 4 inch is 3.000 KD, and zinc coarse gauge 8 x 1 1/4 inch is 3.500 KD.
- Kirby: gauge 14 x 3/4 inch is 1.750 KD, rising to gauge 14 x 4 inch at 3.750 KD.
Choosing a screw
- Self-drilling or self-tapping? A self-drilling screw carries a drill point and cuts its own hole in steel sheet, so you fix in one pass. A self-tapping screw wants a pilot hole, but it costs less and comes in finer gauges.
- The gauge is the shank, the inches are the length. Gauge 6 suits plasterboard, gauge 8 to 10 suits timber and steel sheet, gauge 14 is for heavy frame work.
- Coarse thread or twinfast for drywall. Coarse thread grips timber studs; twinfast drives faster, which tells on a long ceiling run.
- Zinc or black. Black phosphate is the usual indoor drywall finish. Zinc plating is the one to pick anywhere there is moisture.
- Length rule of thumb: the screw wants to reach at least twice the thickness of the top sheet into the material underneath, so a single 12 mm plasterboard takes 1 inch to 1 1/4 inch.
- Driving them: a cordless drill driver and a Phillips bit cover every size here.

FAQs
What screw do I use for plasterboard?
A gauge-6 drywall gypsum screw. Coarse black gauge 6 x 1 1/4 inch is 2.750 KD and grips timber studs; twinfast black gauge 8 x 1 1/4 inch is 2.500 KD and drives faster. Use 3/4 inch to 1 1/4 inch on a single 12 mm board and 1 1/2 inch to 2 inch on a double layer.
Do you sell screws that fix into steel sheet without drilling first?
Yes, self-drilling screws. Hex washer head zinc is the usual pick for roofing and cladding, from 3.000 KD for gauge 8 x 3/4 inch up to 5.000 KD for gauge 10 x 1 1/2 inch. Truss head zinc starts at 2.250 KD for gauge 8 x 1/2 inch.
What is the shortest and the longest screw you stock?
The shortest is a pan framing self-drilling gauge 6 x 7/16 inch at 2.500 KD. The longest is 4 inch, and it comes three ways: self-tapping gauge 10 at 2.250 KD, Kirby gauge 14 at 3.750 KD and drywall gauge 8 at 3.000 KD.
Are screws sold singly or by the box?
By the box, one gauge and length per box. Bring the old screw with you, or the size written down, and we will match it at the counter in Shuwaikh.
