Choosing a cash counter
- Piece counter or value counter? A piece counter tells you how many notes you have; a value counter reads the denominations and tells you how much money you have. If your till takes 1, 5, 10 and 20 dinar notes mixed together, the 68.000 KD value counter is what removes the sorting step.
- Hopper size decides how often you stop. A 300-note hopper at 1000 notes a minute means you load it about three times a minute and it never waits for you. The pocket counter has no hopper of that kind and is for small batches.
- Counting speed only matters at volume. 1000 notes a minute closes a busy restaurant till in under a minute. For a small office that counts once a week, the 9.500 KD mini counter does the same job for a quarter of the price.
- The ADD button is the one feature people miss. It accumulates several batches into one running total, which is how you count a day's takings in handfuls rather than all at once.
- A POS register is a different purchase. The 34.450 KD register rings up sales, prints a 58 mm receipt, holds 50 cashier logins and 20 payment methods, and has a serial port for a scanner, a scale or a kitchen printer. It does not count cash; pair it with a counter.
- Weighing rather than counting? For coin and stock weighing see weighing machines and scales.
