Car Fridge

Ten portable fridges, in two different kinds. Seven are air-cooling hot-and-cold boxes in stainless steel, 8 to 20 litres, from 11.950 KD, which switch between cooling and warming. Three are compressor fridges, 15, 30 and 50 litres, rated by their own records from -20 to +20 degrees C and drawing 45 W, from 38.500 KD up to 79.000 KD for the 50 litre.

Which size, and which kind?

Buying tips

• Air cooling or a compressor? The seven air-cooling boxes are the light, low-cost option and they also warm food, but none of their records states a temperature figure. The three compressor models are the ones that state a range, -20 to +20 degrees C, and they are the only ones on this page that will freeze.
• Check the voltage on the model you choose, not on the collection. Only the 8 litre hot-and-cold box records a 12 V car socket alongside 240 V at home. The other six air-cooling boxes record 220 V only, and the three compressor models record that they run on both AC and DC. Ask at the counter before you buy for a car.
• Two models are the same price. The 13.5 litre with a display and the 20 litre without one are both 19.900 KD, so the choice is screen against capacity.
• A display is roughly 3.400 to 5.000 KD extra. 8 litre 11.950 against 14.900, 13.5 litre 15.500 against 19.900, 20 litre 19.900 against 24.900.
• Measure the boot or the back seat first. The 20 litre is 240 x 355 x 310 mm, the 15 litre compressor model is 41 x 29 x 45 cm and the 30 litre is 37 x 62 x 37 cm. The 50 litre record states no dimensions at all.
