Sockets, ratchets and the cases they come in, for car and machine work where a spanner is too slow. A 12-piece 1/4" set is 3.000 KD, the mid-range 1/2" sets are 5.250 and 10.250 KD, and a 114-piece set covering both drives is 21.500 KD. A ratchet on its own starts at 2.000 KD.

Which socket set is right for you?

Set Best for Price
3-way reversible ratchet, 1/4" or 3/8" You already own sockets and only need the handle from 2.000 KD

28-piece set, 1/4" drive A house and car boot set, with bits as well as sockets 4.350 KD
1/2" drive set, 10–24 mm Wheel nuts, suspension and anything that needs real torque 5.250 KD
24-piece set, 1/2" drive The same drive with more sizes in the case 10.250 KD

What you get for what you spend

  • 2.000–2.750 KD — a ratchet handle only, 1/4" or 3/8" drive, three-way reversible.
  • 3.000–4.350 KD — a first set: 12 pieces at 3.000 KD, or 28 pieces at 4.350 KD with screwdriver bits in the case as well.
  • 5.250 KD — the one most car owners should buy: 1/2" drive, 10–24 mm, which is the range wheel and suspension bolts live in.
  • 10.250–15.750 KD — more sizes, or a long 1/4" list for machine work.
  • 18.500–21.500 KD — both drives in one case, 93 or 114 pieces.

Buying tips

  • Drive size matters more than piece count. 1/4" is for small fasteners and tight spaces; 1/2" takes the leverage you need on wheel nuts and suspension bolts. A 46-piece 1/4" set will not undo a wheel nut, and a 1/2" ratchet will not fit behind a dashboard panel.
  • If you own one car, start at 1/2". The 10–24 mm set at 5.250 KD covers most Japanese and Korean fasteners. Add a 1/4" set later for the fiddly work.
  • Count the sockets, not the pieces. "114 pieces" includes bits, extensions, adaptors and a case. Open the lid in the showroom and look at how many actual sockets are in there and what sizes they cover.
  • Sockets or spanners? A socket and ratchet is faster on any nut you can get straight onto, which is why car work starts here. Open and ring spanners reach nuts in corners a socket cannot approach — see spanners and wrenches.
  • Six-point or twelve-point: twelve-point sockets go on at more angles and are quicker; six-point grip more of the flat and are the better choice on a nut that is already rounded off.
  • Buy the ratchet alone if the case is fine. Ratchets are what break on a cheap set. A 1/4" or 3/8" three-way reversible ratchet is 2.000–2.750 KD on its own.
  • Don't put a pipe on the handle. If a bolt will not move, you need a longer bar, penetrating fluid or heat — not more weight on a ratchet mechanism, which is where it fails.

FAQs

How much is a socket set in Kuwait?

A 12-piece 1/4" set is 3.000 KD and a 28-piece 1/4" set is 4.350 KD. In 1/2" drive, the 10–24 mm set is 5.250 KD and the 24-piece set is 10.250 KD. The large sets are 15.750 KD for 46 pieces, 18.500 KD for 93 pieces covering both drives, and 21.500 KD for 114 pieces. A ratchet on its own starts at 2.000 KD.

Is a "box spanner set" the same thing as a socket set?

Yes — box spanner, socket spanner and socket set all mean the same tool in Kuwait: hollow sockets that slip over a nut and turn with a ratchet or bar. Everything on this page is that. What people call a "ring spanner" is a different tool and lives in spanners and wrenches.

Which socket set do I need for my car?

For wheel nuts, brakes and suspension, the 1/2" drive 10–24 mm set at 5.250 KD. For engine bay and interior work, a 1/4" set — 28 pieces at 4.350 KD. If you would rather buy once, the 93-piece set at 18.500 KD has both drives in one case.

Do I need an impact wrench as well?

Only if you are taking wheels off often. A 1/2" ratchet and a long bar will shift most wheel nuts by hand. If you are weighing up the powered version, read impact wrench vs impact driver first — they are not the same tool and the driver will not do wheel nuts.

I want one box with everything, not just sockets.

Then look at the 114-piece socket and wrench set at 21.500 KD, or go to tool sets, where the 30-piece set at 7.500 KD puts screwdrivers, a hammer and pliers in one case alongside basic sockets.

Also useful: the full hand tools range, and spanners and wrenches for open, ring, adjustable and pipe work.
