Steel rules, scissors, carpenter pencils and a tape dispenser — the marking-out and cutting kit that sits on a workbench or a counter rather than in a toolbox. A pack of twelve carpenter pencils is 0.500 KD, a pair of scissors 0.750 KD, and a 30 cm steel rule 1.500 KD, with 60 cm and 1 metre rules above it. Everything here except the wall file rack is in stock today.
Which one do you need?
| Type | Best for | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Carpenter pencils, 12 to a pack, red | Marking timber, board and blockwork. Flat section so it will not roll off a sawhorse, and a lead wide enough to see on a rough face. Twelve to a pack because they go missing, not because you need twelve | 0.500 KD |
| Carpenter pencils, 12 to a pack, red and blue | The same job with two colours in the pack, which is useful if you mark cut lines in one colour and reference lines in another. A slightly narrower section than the red pack | 0.750 KD |
| Scissors, stainless steel, 8.5" | General cutting — paper, card, film, packaging, string. The longer of the two pairs by the recorded figure, and the cheaper one | 0.750 KD |
| Tape dispenser | Anyone taping more than a few boxes a day. It also sits on the packing bench — the tape itself is in packing tape and film | 0.750 KD |
| Scissors, aluminium handle | A heavier pair with a metal handle rather than a plastic one. No length is recorded for this one, so it is worth holding both pairs before you choose between them | 1.450 KD |
| Steel rule, 30 cm / 12" | Bench and site measuring and, just as often, a straight edge to cut against. Steel rather than plastic, so a knife run along it does not shave a curve into the edge | 1.500 KD |
| Steel rule, 60 cm | The best value of the three by length — twice the 30 cm rule for half again the money. The one to buy if you are only buying one | 2.250 KD |
| Steel rule, 1 metre | Full sheet work — marking and cutting across board, ply, laminate and vinyl in one pass instead of three | 5.250 KD |
| Backpack | Carrying a laptop, papers and small tools between a van and a site office. Only six left at the moment, so ask before you plan on it | 6.500 KD |

What to check before buying
- Buy the 60 cm rule if you are buying one. It is 2.250 KD against 1.500 KD for the 30 cm, so half again the money for twice the length, and it still fits in a tool bag. The 1-metre rule at 5.250 KD costs more per centimetre than either of the shorter two — it is worth it only if you genuinely mark across full sheets.
- A steel rule is a straight edge as much as a measure. That is the real reason to pay for steel instead of plastic or aluminium. If you cut against it with a knife, buy the length of the longest cut you make, not the length that fits your bag.
- Scissors: hold both pairs. The 0.750 KD stainless pair records 8.5 inches; the 1.450 KD aluminium-handled pair records no length at all, so the only honest comparison is in the hand. If you cut all day, the heavier handle is usually the one that wins; if the scissors live in a drawer, the cheaper pair is enough.
- Cutting metal? These are not the right scissors. Sheet metal needs snips, which are a different tool and a different shelf. Ask at the counter rather than ruining a pair of 0.750 KD scissors on a 0.750 KD mistake.
- Carpenter pencils are consumables. Both packs hold twelve. At 0.500 and 0.750 KD a pack, buy the two-colour pack if you want to separate cut lines from reference lines, and the red pack if you just want pencils on the bench.
- Need a tape measure rather than a rule? Different product and a different page — a rule is rigid and a tape rolls up, and for anything over a metre you want the tape. See measuring tools.
- Kitting out a workshop or a counter? Contact us for quantities — the pencils, both scissors, the dispenser and all three rules are held at around a hundred each. The backpack is the one exception and there are six.
Buying it from Bab Al-Saif
- Hold them before you buy at our showroom at Shuwaikh Plaza, Khalifa Al-Jassim Street, Shuwaikh Industrial — both pairs of scissors and all three rules are on the counter, and with one pair of scissors recording no size there is no substitute for picking them both up.

FAQs
How much is a steel ruler in Kuwait, and which length should I get?
1.500 KD for 30 cm, 2.250 KD for 60 cm and 5.250 KD for 1 metre, all in stock. The 60 cm is the best value by length and the one most people should buy. The metre rule is for marking and cutting across full sheets; it costs more per centimetre than the shorter two, so only buy it if that is what you actually do.
Which scissors do you have, and what is the difference?
Two pairs. A stainless steel pair at 0.750 KD, recorded as 8.5 inches, and a pair with an aluminium handle at 1.450 KD. The record does not give a length for the second one, so we are not going to claim one — the difference you can see is the handle, and the difference you can feel is the weight. Both are in stock, 84 and 88 pairs.
Do you sell pens, paper or files?
No. This page is rules, scissors, carpenter pencils, a tape dispenser and a backpack. We do not stock pens, paper, notebooks, markers or staplers, and the wall file rack is out of stock at the moment. If you are after packing and labelling supplies rather than desk supplies, packing tape and film is the page you want.
What is a carpenter pencil and why not an ordinary one?
A flat, wide-leaded pencil for marking timber, board and blockwork. The flat body stops it rolling off a bench or a sawhorse and the wide lead shows up on a rough or dusty surface, which a thin graphite line does not. Twelve to a pack, 0.500 KD for the red pack and 0.750 KD for a pack with red and blue in it.
Also useful: measuring tools for tape measures, squares and levels, and packing tape and film for the tape that goes in the dispenser.
