Picking the right pump
- Red or blue is not a colour choice. The red drum pump is specified for petrol, diesel, kerosene, water and light oils; the blue one for urea and DEF, bio diesel, antifreeze, detergents, pesticides and herbicides. The seals and the body differ, so match the pump to the liquid rather than to the drum.
- The 1.500 KD pump is a siphon, not a transfer pump. At up to 6 quarts a minute and 225 g, running on two D cells, it is the one for emptying a tank, a sump or an aquarium where there is no socket. It is explicitly not for corrosive liquids.
- Mains drum pumps earn their price on volume. A 35.000 KD electric drum pump moves a 200 litre drum in a fraction of the time a hand pump takes, which is the whole argument when you are decanting every day rather than once a season.
- Sand blasting needs air, not just the blaster. The 10 gallon pot is fed by compressed air, so size your compressor first. See air compressors.
