Buying tips

Straight or curved? A circular saw is for long straight cuts; a jigsaw is for curves and cut-outs. A miter saw is worth it once you are cutting the same angle over and over.
Metal and tile: use a cut-off machine for steel bar and pipe, and a marble cutting machine with a diamond blade for tile and stone. Don't put a wood blade on either.
Blade first, machine second: most poor cuts are a blunt or wrong blade. Blades are in cutting tools.
Cordless: check whether batteries are included before comparing prices.
