A tape measure at Bab Al-Saif is 0.750 KD for 3 m and 1.000 KD for 5 m, a spirit level starts at 1.750 KD, and a self-levelling line laser is 7.000 KD. Twenty-seven measuring tools are listed in Shuwaikh, and twenty-five of the twenty-seven have a listed price under 15.000 KD.
The reason people buy the wrong one is that four different tools answer four different questions, and in Arabic two of them share a name. How long is it wants a tape. Is it level wants a spirit level or a line laser. How thick is it wants a caliper. How far away is it wants a laser distance meter — which is not a laser level, however similar the two look in a photograph.
Which tool answers which question
| Tool | The question it answers | Range or size | Price from |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pocket steel tape measure | How long is this, within arm's reach? | 3 m and 5 m | 0.750 KD |
| Fibreglass long tape | How long is a room, a wall, a plot? | 30 m and 50 m | 1.750 KD |
| Spirit level | Is this flat, plumb or square? | 40 cm to 100 cm | 1.750 KD |
| Caliper | How thick is this pipe, bolt or sheet? | 0 to 150 mm, and 8 to 60 inch | 3.950 KD |
| Self-levelling line laser | Where is the level line across this wall? | 15 m and 30 m | 7.000 KD |
| Laser distance meter | How far is that wall, without walking to it? | 50 m to 100 m | 9.000 KD |
| Measuring wheel | How long is this run of road or boundary? | To 10,000 m | 6.750 KD |
Tape measures: 3 m to 100 m, and three different materials
| Tape | Length | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Pocket steel tape | 3 m | 0.750 KD |
| Pocket steel tape | 5 m | 1.000 KD |
| Fibreglass tape on a reel | 30 m | 1.750 KD |
| Fibreglass tape on a reel | 50 m | 2.750 KD |
| Long steel tape, waterproof | 50 m | 2.750 KD |
| Long steel tape, waterproof | 100 m | 4.500 KD |
The choice between the two 50 m tapes at the same 2.750 KD is a material choice, not a price one. Fibreglass is a woven tape: it will not kink permanently, it does not conduct, and it is lighter to wind back in. Steel holds a straight line over a long pull, so a steel tape stretched between two pegs sags less than a fibreglass one. For a boundary wall or a plot, steel. For general site work where the tape gets trodden on, fibreglass.
And the honest note on the pocket tapes: 0.750 KD for 3 m against 1.000 KD for 5 m is 0.250 KD for two more metres, which is less than the price of a coffee. Almost nobody wishes they had bought the 3 m.
Spirit levels: 40 cm to 100 cm, magnetic or bridge
| Level | Length | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Bridge spirit level | 40 cm | 1.750 KD |
| Bridge spirit level | 50 cm | 2.000 KD |
| Bridge spirit level | 60 cm | 2.250 KD |
| Magnetic spirit level | 40 cm | 2.250 KD |
| Magnetic spirit level | 60 cm | 3.000 KD |
| Magnetic spirit level | 80 cm | 3.750 KD |
| Magnetic spirit level | 100 cm | 4.500 KD |
| Mini spirit level | 400 mm | 2.500 KD |
Both ladders step evenly: the bridge level is 0.250 KD per 10 cm, and the magnetic one is 0.750 KD per 20 cm all the way from 40 cm to 100 cm. So the length decision is cheap, and length is the thing that matters — a level only tells you the truth across the span it touches. A 40 cm level laid on a 2 m shelf reads the 40 cm it is sitting on, which is how a shelf ends up level in three places and sloping overall.
- Buy the level as long as the thing you are levelling, up to what fits in your bag. For shelves, picture rails and a washing machine, 60 cm. For a door frame or a run of kitchen units, 100 cm at 4.500 KD.
- Magnetic earns its keep on metal. Aluminium window frames, steel studwork, a metal door, a satellite bracket — the level stays put and both your hands are free. In Kuwait, where aluminium doors and frames are everywhere, that is most of the jobs.
- The 400 mm mini at 2.500 KD is the one that lives in a tool bag rather than a van, for a single bracket or a shelf.
Laser levels and laser distance meters are two different tools
This is the most expensive confusion on the page, so it is worth two sentences. A line laser projects a level line or cross onto a surface and self-levels, so you can mark along it with both hands. A distance meter fires a dot at a wall and tells you how far away the wall is. One draws the line; the other reads the number. They do not substitute for one another.
| Tool | What it does | Stated range | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Self-levelling line laser | Projects a level line, levels itself | 15 m | 7.000 KD |
| 16-line laser level with LCD screen | Multiple lines at once, with a screen | 16 lines | 13.750 KD |
| 16-line laser level | Multiple lines at once | 16 lines | 13.900 KD |
| Self-levelling line laser, longer range | Projects a level line, levels itself | 30 m | 15.000 KD |
| Aluminium tripod for a laser level | Holds the laser at working height | — | 3.500 KD |
Budget the 3.500 KD tripod with the laser, not after it. A line laser standing on a floor projects its line at floor height, which is the one height you almost never want to mark at. The tripod is what turns a 7.000 KD tool into a usable one.
The four laser distance meters are 9.000 KD for a 100 m unit, 9.950 KD for a 50 m unit with a 5 m tape measure built into the same body, 12.000 KD for a 0.2 to 60 m unit and 13.000 KD for a 60 m unit, model ADF05-60.
Range and price do not line up in that group, and we would rather say so than arrange it into a table that implies they do: the 100 m unit is the lowest-priced of the four and the two 60 m units are the highest. Nothing in the four records explains the difference, so compare them on the counter rather than from the prices. The 9.950 KD two-in-one is the interesting one for a single tool, because the 5 m tape covers the short measurements a laser is clumsy at — anything under about a metre, and anything round a corner.
Calipers: three kinds, 3.950 KD to 25.000 KD
| Caliper | Capacity | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Digital caliper | 0 to 150 mm | 3.950 KD |
| Vernier caliper | 8 inch | 6.500 KD |
| Vernier caliper | 12 inch | 9.500 KD |
| Digital caliper, larger | 8 inch | 15.000 KD |
| Digital caliper, larger | 12 inch | 25.000 KD |
| Outside spring caliper | 18 inch | 4.750 KD |
| Outside spring caliper | 24 inch | 6.500 KD |
| Outside spring caliper | 36 inch | 10.500 KD |
| Outside spring caliper | 48 inch | 11.500 KD |
| Outside spring caliper | 60 inch | 25.000 KD |
Three different tools wearing one name:
- Vernier, 6.500 KD at 8 inch. A sliding jaw and an engraved scale you read against a second scale. No battery in it.
- Digital, 3.950 KD for 0 to 150 mm. The jaws close on the work and the figure appears on a display, which removes the reading skill the vernier needs. That 150 mm tool at 3.950 KD is the lowest-priced caliper here and covers almost every pipe, bolt and sheet in a domestic job.
- Outside spring caliper, 4.750 KD at 18 inch. This one has no scale at all. Two curved legs on a spring joint: you set it on the work, lock it, and transfer the setting to a rule or to the next piece. It is a comparison tool, which is why it runs to 60 inch while the measuring calipers stop at 12.
Measuring wheels for long runs
- Mechanical measuring wheel, to 10,000 m — 6.750 KD. A counter geared to the wheel.
- Digital measuring wheel with LCD, to 9999.9 m — 8.950 KD.
You walk these, so they beat a tape on anything long and uneven — a kerb line, a boundary, a car park, a road frontage. Round a corner or over a kerb a laser cannot help you, and a 50 m tape has to be reset every 50 m.
And the one that saves a drill bit: a wall scanner at 12.500 KD
A wall scanner that detects metal, wood and wires, rated 240 V, is 12.500 KD. It belongs in a measuring post because it answers a measuring question — where exactly is the thing I cannot see — before you commit a hole to a wall.
In Kuwaiti construction that question has two common answers behind a wall: a steel stud or lintel, or a conduit. The first costs you a bit; the second costs you considerably more. We price the bits themselves in drill bits and hole saws and the machines in how much a cordless drill costs in Kuwait.
Four more instruments sit in this collection and are worth knowing about even though they are not length tools: a digital wood moisture meter at 7.000 KD, a mini digital anemometer for wind speed at 8.500 KD, a noise detector at 12.000 KD and a digital pressure gauge at 12.000 KD. We have printed no reading range for any of the four, because their records do not state one.
What Kuwait actually changes
- Aluminium is the default frame here, so a magnetic level from 2.250 KD does more work in Kuwait than it would elsewhere. Windows, doors, shopfronts and partition studwork all hold it.
- A majlis is measured before it is furnished. A 5 m pocket tape at 1.000 KD covers a carpet or a seating run; a 30 m fibreglass tape at 1.750 KD covers a whole floor plan without resetting.
- Plots and boundary walls want 50 m or 100 m. 2.750 KD and 4.500 KD respectively, and for a long straight pull between two points the steel tape is the one that sags least.
- Tiling a floor is a line problem, not a length problem. That is where a 7.000 KD line laser plus the 3.500 KD tripod beats measuring from a wall that is not itself straight.
- Sand gets into everything. A pocket tape that has been dropped in a porch comes back with grit on the blade. Wipe it before you wind it in; it is a 1.000 KD tool, but the one that jams always jams mid-job.
Why buy from Bab Al-Saif
- Try the laser on our own wall before you buy it, at our showroom in Shuwaikh Plaza, Khalifa Al-Jassim Street, Shuwaikh Industrial. A line laser's usefulness is how clearly you can see the line, and that is not something a specification tells you.
- In Kuwait since 1992, rated 4.7★ from more than 350 Google reviews.
- Cash on delivery, card, or instalments with Deema, and delivery across Kuwait.
- Twenty-seven products in the one collection, from a 0.750 KD tape to a 25.000 KD caliper, so a tape, a level and a laser come in one order.
Frequently asked questions
Laser level price in Kuwait
From 7.000 KD for a self-levelling line laser with a stated 15 m range. The 30 m version is 15.000 KD, a 16-line laser level is 13.750 KD and 13.900 KD on two listings, and the aluminium tripod that holds any of them at working height is 3.500 KD. Laser distance meters, which are a different tool, are 9.000 KD to 13.000 KD. All of them are in measuring tools and laser levels.
How much is a measuring tape in Kuwait?
0.750 KD for a 3 m pocket steel tape and 1.000 KD for 5 m. Long tapes on a reel are 1.750 KD for 30 m fibreglass, 2.750 KD for 50 m in either fibreglass or steel, and 4.500 KD for a 100 m steel tape.
What is the difference between a laser level and a laser distance meter?
A laser level draws a level line or cross on a surface so you can mark along it, and it levels itself; ours are 7.000 KD and 15.000 KD. A laser distance meter measures how far away something is and gives you a number; ours are 9.000 KD to 13.000 KD. If you are hanging a row of pictures you want the level. If you are costing a room you want the meter.
What length spirit level should I buy?
As long as the thing you are levelling, because a level only reads the span it touches. 40 cm at 1.750 KD for a single bracket, 60 cm at 2.250 KD for shelves and a washing machine, 100 cm at 4.500 KD for a door frame or a run of units. The magnetic versions, 2.250 KD at 40 cm up to 4.500 KD at 100 cm, hold themselves onto aluminium and steel so both your hands stay free.
What is a vernier caliper used for?
Measuring a thickness, an outside diameter or an inside diameter precisely — a bolt shank, a pipe wall, a sheet of steel. The jaws close on the work and you read the sliding scale against the fixed one. Ours are 6.500 KD at 8 inch and 9.500 KD at 12 inch. If you would rather read a display than a scale, the digital caliper covering 0 to 150 mm is 3.950 KD.
Which tape do I use for a 50 metre wall, fibreglass or steel?
Both are 2.750 KD at 50 m, so it is not a price question. Steel holds a straighter line over a long pull between two fixed points, which is what you want for a boundary. Fibreglass is lighter, winds back in more easily and does not kink permanently when it is trodden on, which is what you want on a working site.
Do I need a tripod for a laser level?
For almost any job above floor height, yes. The laser projects its line at whatever height it sits, so on a floor you get a line along the skirting. The aluminium tripod is 3.500 KD and it is the difference between a laser you use and a laser in a drawer.
How do I find a wire before drilling a wall?
With the wall scanner at 12.500 KD, which its record describes as detecting metal, wood and wires and states 240 V. Scan before the hole, not after it. The bits are in drill bits and hole saws from 0.150 KD, and we go through drill choice in how much a cordless drill costs in Kuwait.
Where can I buy measuring tools in Kuwait?
At our showroom in Shuwaikh Plaza, Khalifa Al-Jassim Street, Shuwaikh Industrial, or online from measuring tools and laser levels, with delivery across Kuwait and payment by cash on delivery, card or Deema instalments. Opening hours and contact details are on the FAQs page.
Also useful: measuring tools and laser levels for the whole collection, hand tools for the marker, the knife and the square that go with them, drill bits and hole saws for after the mark is made, and what a home tool kit should contain if you are starting from nothing.
