Which weighing scale do you need? Kuwait prices from 0.950 KD

Mohammed Nazir |

A weighing scale at Bab Al-Saif starts at 0.950 KD for a digital luggage scale that reads to 50 kg, and 2.250 KD puts a digital scale on a kitchen counter. Above that the range splits into three working tools that have nothing to do with each other: a price-computing shop scale from 9.500 KD, a platform scale from 13.500 KD, and floor scales that read to 5 tonnes at 185.000 KD.

So the first question is not which brand. It is which of the four kinds of scale your job needs, because a 300 kg platform and a 20 kg kitchen scale are not the same purchase at different sizes.

Four kinds of scale, and which one your question is about

If you are weighing You want Capacity Price from
A suitcase before a flight A digital luggage scale you hook to the handle 50 kg 0.950 KD
Flour, rice, meat, a recipe A flat digital kitchen scale Kitchen sizes, 20 kg and 30 kg listed 2.250 KD
Goods you are selling by the kilo A price-computing scale with a customer display 40 kg and 50 kg 9.500 KD
Sacks, boxes, a pallet load A platform scale you stand the load on 150 kg to 5 tonnes 13.500 KD

Kitchen scales, 2.250 KD to 7.500 KD

Scale What the record states Price
Digital kitchen scale Kitchen scale, flat platform 2.250 KD
Digital scale with a bowl Bowl supplied 2.950 KD
Kitchen scale, 20 kg 20 kg 3.500 KD
Digital kitchen scale, glass top Glass platform 4.950 KD
Kitchen scale, 30 kg 30 kg 7.500 KD

The step from 20 kg at 3.500 KD to 30 kg at 7.500 KD is the step most people get wrong in both directions. A 20 kg scale is already far more than a recipe needs; 30 kg is the one to take if you buy rice or flour in a sack and want to portion it at home. If all you weigh is grams of spice, the 2.250 KD scale is the whole answer.

A bowl is worth the 0.700 KD it costs over the flat scale if you weigh anything loose, because the alternative is weighing a plate, noting the figure and subtracting it. Only the 2.950 KD scale here is listed with one.

One thing these records do not give you: the division, meaning the smallest step the scale will show. Only one scale in the whole collection states it, the 40 kg price-computing scale, which states 5 g. For the kitchen scales the records state capacity and not division, so we are not printing a figure for them. If you need to weigh yeast or coffee to the gram, ask us to put a 10 g weight on one in the showroom before you buy it.

Luggage and hanging scales, from 0.950 KD

Both read to 50 kg, which is the figure that matters, because the reason to own one is not the airline's scale — it is the excess-baggage charge, which you find out about at the check-in counter when it is too late to move anything between cases. A sub-dinar scale in a suitcase pocket is the lowest-priced item in this whole collection, measured against what it saves once.

Shop scales that compute the price, 9.500 KD to 18.000 KD

Scale Capacity Price
Price-computing scale, 40 kg, 5 g division 40 kg 9.500 KD
Electronic price-computing scale, 40 kg 40 kg 9.500 KD
Price-computing scale with display, 40 kg 40 kg 12.500 KD
Scale, 100 kg and 150 kg 100 kg or 150 kg 15.000 KD and 18.000 KD
Price-computing scale, 50 kg, with display stand 50 kg 17.000 KD

A price-computing scale is the one behind a counter in a vegetable shop or a butcher's. You key a price per kilo, put the goods on, and it shows weight, unit price and total on a display the customer can read. That second display is what you are paying for between 9.500 KD and 17.000 KD — the 17.000 KD model raises it on a stand so it faces the customer at eye height instead of lying flat on the counter.

The 100 kg and 150 kg scale at 15.000 KD and 18.000 KD is the in-between size: bigger than a counter scale, smaller than a floor platform. A store room taking in 50 kg sacks is its job.

Platform scales: 150 kg to 5 tonnes, and the platform size matters as much as the capacity

Scale Capacity Platform Price
Electronic platform scale, 150 kg 150 kg 30 × 40 cm 13.500 KD
Electronic platform scale, 300 kg 300 kg 40 × 50 cm 17.500 KD
Platform scale, 300 kg, double display 300 kg Two displays 20.000 KD
Electronic platform scale, 500 kg 500 kg 45 × 60 cm 25.000 KD
Electronic platform scale, 600 kg 600 kg Not stated 26.000 KD
Floor scale, 1.5 tonnes 1.5 t Not stated 130.000 KD
Floor scale, 2 tonnes 2 t Not stated 145.000 KD
Floor scale, 5 tonnes 5 t Not stated 185.000 KD

Read the platform column before the capacity column. The three scales that state a size go 30 × 40 cm, 40 × 50 cm and 45 × 60 cm, so the plate grows by 15 cm in width and 20 cm in depth from the smallest to the largest. A 500 kg capacity is no use if the box you are weighing overhangs a 45 × 60 cm plate, because the load has to sit inside the platform to read correctly. Measure the biggest thing you will weigh, not the heaviest.

The jump from 26.000 KD at 600 kg to 130.000 KD at 1.5 tonnes is the real boundary in this range, and it is a five-fold step. Below it you are buying a portable plate with a cable to a handheld indicator. Above it you are buying a built floor scale. If a load can be broken into two 500 kg weighings, that choice is worth about 104.000 KD.

All three sizes with a stated platform are on one listing, the platform scale in 150, 300 and 500 kg, at 13.500 KD, 17.500 KD and 25.000 KD, which is the quickest way to compare the plate sizes in one place.

Mechanical or electronic?

  • Electronic, from 0.950 KD. A load cell and a digital display, and a battery to run them. This is what almost everything in the collection is.
  • Mechanical spring, 1.950 KD. A spring and a dial, read by eye, with no battery in it.

We are not going to tell you which reads finer, because only one scale in this collection publishes its division — the 40 kg price-computing scale, at 5 g — and a resolution comparison across records that do not state one would be invented. What is worth saying about Kuwait specifically: a scale kept in an uncooled store room through August and used twice a year is a scale whose battery will be flat the day you reach for it, and that is the whole case for the 1.950 KD one.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a weighing scale cost in Kuwait?

From 0.950 KD for a digital luggage scale that reads to 50 kg. A digital kitchen scale is 2.250 KD, a 20 kg kitchen scale 3.500 KD and a 30 kg one 7.500 KD. Price-computing shop scales start at 9.500 KD for 40 kg. Platform scales are 13.500 KD for 150 kg, 17.500 KD for 300 kg, 25.000 KD for 500 kg and 26.000 KD for 600 kg, and floor scales are 130.000 KD at 1.5 tonnes, 145.000 KD at 2 tonnes and 185.000 KD at 5 tonnes. The full grid is in weighing scales.

Which scale do I use to weigh a suitcase before a flight?

The digital luggage scale at 0.950 KD, which reads to 50 kg. You hook it to the case handle and lift it clear of the floor. Two listings carry the same scale, at 0.950 KD and 1.500 KD, and their records are identical, so take whichever the page puts in front of you. If you would rather own nothing with a battery in it, the mechanical spring scale is 1.950 KD.

What is a price-computing scale?

A counter scale that holds a price per kilo, so it shows the weight, the unit price and the money owed at the same time, on a display the customer can see. Ours are 9.500 KD and 12.500 KD at 40 kg, and 17.000 KD at 50 kg with the display raised on a stand. They are the scale for selling by weight, not for a kitchen.

Which kitchen scale should I buy?

If you weigh ingredients for cooking, the 2.250 KD digital scale is enough, and the 2.950 KD one with a bowl saves you weighing a plate first. If you buy rice, flour or meat in bulk and split it at home, take the 30 kg scale at 7.500 KD. The 20 kg at 3.500 KD sits between the two. None of the kitchen records states the division, so bring a known weight and test one on the counter if grams matter to you.

What capacity platform scale do I need?

Pick the platform size first. 150 kg comes on a 30 × 40 cm plate at 13.500 KD, 300 kg on 40 × 50 cm at 17.500 KD, and 500 kg on 45 × 60 cm at 25.000 KD. A load that overhangs the plate will not read correctly however light it is, so measure the footprint of your biggest box or sack before you choose the capacity. Above 600 kg you move from a portable plate at 26.000 KD to a built floor scale at 130.000 KD.

What is the difference between an electronic scale and a spring scale?

An electronic scale uses a load cell and a digital display, and it needs a battery. A spring scale, 1.950 KD here, uses a spring and a dial, is read by eye, and needs nothing. We are not comparing their resolution, because only one scale in the collection publishes a division at all. For a store room used twice a year the spring scale is the one that still works when you pick it up.

Do you have a scale for a warehouse pallet?

For a palletised load you are into floor-scale territory: 1.5 tonnes at 130.000 KD, 2 tonnes at 145.000 KD, 5 tonnes at 185.000 KD. If the pallet can be unloaded and weighed in parts, a 500 kg platform at 25.000 KD or a 600 kg at 26.000 KD does the same job for a fraction of it. The trucks themselves are in hand trolleys and platform trucks, and we price them in forklifts and pallet trucks in Kuwait.

Where can I buy a weighing scale in Kuwait?

At our showroom in Shuwaikh Plaza, Khalifa Al-Jassim Street, Shuwaikh Industrial, or online from weighing scales, with delivery across Kuwait and payment by cash on delivery, card or Deema instalments. Opening hours and contact details are on the FAQs page.

Also useful: weighing scales for every size, hand trolleys and platform trucks for moving what you have just weighed, storage racks and steel shelving for where it goes afterwards, and forklifts and pallet trucks in Kuwait if the loads are bigger than one person.
