Which glue, silicone or tape do you need? Kuwait prices from 0.150 KD

Mohammed Nazir |

Glue, sealant and tape at Bab Al-Saif start at 0.150 KD for a 3 g tube of super glue and a 280 ml silicone cartridge is 1.000 KD, so most of what follows costs less than two dinars. The decision that matters is not the brand: it is whether the job wants an adhesive that holds two things together, a sealant that keeps water out of a joint that moves, a foam that fills a gap, or a tape, and those four are not interchangeable.

Silicone: 280 ml, 300 ml, and the gun you need to use it

A cartridge is not a squeeze tube. It is a rigid tube with a piston in the back, and it does nothing until it is in a cartridge gun — which is a common reason a silicone purchase comes back unused.

  • Three silicone sealants, two cartridge sizes, three prices. A 300 ml transparent cartridge is 0.750 KD. A 280 ml cartridge is 1.000 KD in clear or white. A general-purpose 280 ml cartridge is 1.250 KD and comes in white, black, grey or transparent — four colours at one price, which is the one to pick if the joint runs against a dark surface.
  • Clear or white? White disappears against a white bath, a white sink or a white grout line, and it hides a bead that is not perfectly even. Clear is for coloured or patterned tile, for glass, and for anywhere you would rather see no line at all.
  • The gun starts at 0.500 KD. A 9 inch / 225 mm caulking gun is 0.500 KD. A metal-handle gun is 0.900 KD, an aluminium-body gun with a steel trigger 0.950 KD, and the industrial 9 inch 1.500 KD. For foil sausage packs rather than rigid cartridges there is a 15 inch sausage gun at 2.450 KD. All eight are in silicone and caulking guns.
  • Cut the nozzle to the width of the joint and no wider. A 280 ml cartridge covers far more joint at a 3 mm opening than at 8 mm, and a wide bead is harder to tool flat than a narrow one.
  • Strip the old bead out completely and let the surface dry first. Silicone does not bond through old silicone, and in a Kuwait bathroom a surface that looks dry at the edges often is not underneath.

Glue by chemistry: which one for which material

  • Cyanoacrylate — "super glue". A 3 g tube is 0.150 KD, or 0.350 KD for another 3 g listing, and there is a larger cyanoacrylate at 1.500 KD whose record names plywood, rubber, cork and stripping blades and describes it as high-temperature resistant without giving a figure, so no figure appears here. Cyanoacrylate is for a tight-fitting joint between hard materials. It does not fill a gap, and a gap is why a super-glue repair fails.
  • Epoxy. The epoxy steel putty at 1.250 KD is resin plus atomised steel in a putty you knead. Its own record says it fills, seals and bonds brass, steel, copper and iron. Epoxy is what you reach for when the two faces do not meet neatly — it is a filler that happens to be an adhesive.
  • Contact adhesive. 1.000 KD for a 55 ml tube, and the technique is the whole product: coat both faces, wait until they are tacky, then bring them together — at which point they are joined, so position the piece before contact rather than after. Its record states a temperature range of -40 °C to +70 °C. That upper figure is worth reading twice in Kuwait: a dark surface in full summer sun can sit above 70 °C, so keep a contact-adhesive bond out of direct sun on anything that carries load.
  • Spray adhesive. 1.950 KD for a 500 ml can, for sheet-to-sheet work over a whole face. The record gives the can size and nothing else — no open time, no coverage area, no temperature range — so we quote none of those. Mask around the work before you spray: overspray travels further than people expect, and a 0.500 KD roll of masking tape costs less than cleaning it off. There is also a spray adhesive kit at 2.750 KD.
  • Hot melt. 0.500 KD for twelve 11.2 x 100 mm sticks. The guns are 100 W at 1.750 KD, another corded gun at 3.500 KD, and a cordless gun with two batteries at 15.000 KD. The cordless one is the tool for working away from a socket; note that its title and its variant record two different voltages, so no voltage figure is quoted here. All three are in guns and dispensers.
  • PU expanding foam. 1.000 KD for 500 ml and 1.250 KD for 750 ml. Its record describes it for fixing and isolating door and window frames, filling joints and cavities, and says the cured foam is water resistant and can be painted over. It expands, so underfill rather than overfill and trim it back when it has set.

Tape by job

Tape What it is for Size recorded Price
Packing tape Cartons and parcels. Brown or transparent, and the rolls are sold by yardage. 80 and 100 yard brown; 70 and 100 yard clear from 0.200 KD
Masking tape Paint lines, labelling, masking an edge before you spray. Its record says the adhesive is cured to minimise residue on a painted surface. 1" x 30 yards and 2" x 30 yards 0.500 KD and 0.750 KD
Duct tape Cloth-backed, for patching, bundling and sticking to a rough or textured surface — metal, wood, stone, plaster, brick. 2" x 20 yards 0.750 KD
Double-sided carpet tape Holding carpet, mats and panels down with no fixing visible. Adhesive on both faces. 50 mm x 15 m 2.000 KD
Self-amalgamating rubber tape Wrapping a cable joint or a connector. It bonds to itself rather than to the surface, and stretches around an uneven shape. 0.85 mm thick, 19 mm wide, 5 m long 1.250 KD
Tape dispenser Worth 0.750 KD the first time you cut a roll of packing tape straight. bench dispenser 0.750 KD

The rubber tape is the one with real numbers on it, and they are the numbers to buy on: its record states a normal operating temperature that does not exceed 80 °C and states it as suitable for 1 to 35 kV rubber-plastic cable terminals and middle connections. Those are figures the record gives; they are not a promise we are making about any particular installation, and electrical work on a live circuit is not a job this page is advising you to do.

What Kuwait's climate actually changes

  • Two products here state a temperature and the rest do not. The contact adhesive gives -40 °C to +70 °C and the rubber tape gives a ceiling of 80 °C. For everything else on this page the record states no service temperature, so no figure is given — and a temperature nobody wrote down is not a figure to guess at.
  • Heat shortens the working time, not the strength. Contact adhesive and spray adhesive both depend on a tacky stage, and a hot workshop gets you there faster. Lay out and dry-fit the piece before you open the tube.
  • A bathroom surface in Kuwait is rarely as dry as it looks. That is the usual reason a silicone bead lifts at one end a month later. Strip, dry, then seal.
  • Keep aerosols and cartridges out of a parked car. A 500 ml aerosol in a closed car in July is a pressurised can in a hot box, and that is true whatever the label says.

FAQs

How much is silicone sealant in Kuwait?

0.750 KD for a 300 ml transparent cartridge, 1.000 KD for a 280 ml in clear or white, and 1.250 KD for a general-purpose 280 ml in white, black, grey or transparent. Add a cartridge gun from 0.500 KD if you do not own one. All of them are in adhesives and sealants.

Do I need a gun to use silicone?

Yes, for a cartridge. Every silicone sealant here comes as a 280 ml or 300 ml rigid cartridge, which needs a cartridge gun — 0.500 KD for the 9 inch / 225 mm size, 0.900 KD with a metal handle, 1.500 KD for the industrial version. A foil sausage pack needs the 2.450 KD sausage gun instead.

How much is super glue in Kuwait?

0.150 KD for a 3 g tube, or 0.350 KD for a second 3 g listing. The larger cyanoacrylate is 1.500 KD. Cyanoacrylate suits a tight joint between hard materials and will not fill a gap; for a gap, use the 1.250 KD epoxy steel putty.

What is the difference between silicone and an adhesive?

A silicone sealant stays flexible for the life of the joint, so it keeps water out of a gap that moves — a bath edge, a shower tray, a window frame. An adhesive sets hard and holds two surfaces together. Sealing a bath with construction adhesive cracks the bead the first time the bath flexes; sticking laminate down with silicone never really grips. 1.000 KD for a 280 ml silicone cartridge, 1.000 KD for a 55 ml tube of contact adhesive, and they are not alternatives.

Which tape sticks to a rough wall?

Cloth-backed duct tape at 0.750 KD for a 2" x 20 yard roll. Its own record names metal, wood, stone, plaster and brick. Masking tape at 0.500 KD is the wrong choice for anything textured — it is made to come off cleanly, which is the opposite requirement.

What tape do I use on a cable joint?

Self-amalgamating rubber tape at 1.250 KD, 19 mm wide and 5 m long at 0.85 mm thick. It bonds to itself rather than to the cable, so a wrap becomes one continuous sleeve. Its record states a normal operating temperature not exceeding 80 °C and names 1 to 35 kV rubber-plastic cable terminals.

What size is a silicone cartridge?

280 ml on two of the three sealants here and 300 ml on the third. Both sizes fit a standard 9 inch / 225 mm cartridge gun.

What is the difference between contact adhesive and spray adhesive?

Control against speed. The 1.000 KD 55 ml tube lets you put glue exactly where you want it, which matters on a worktop edge or a strip of trim. The 1.950 KD 500 ml aerosol covers a whole sheet in seconds and goes everywhere else as well, which is why you mask first. Both work by going tacky before contact.

Can I use expanding foam to fill a gap around a door frame?

That is exactly what the record describes it for, along with filling joints, cavities and wall penetrations, and it says the cured foam can be painted. 1.000 KD for 500 ml, 1.250 KD for 750 ml. It expands after it leaves the can, so put in less than looks right and trim it back once it has set.

Also useful: adhesives, sealants and tapes for the whole range, silicone and caulking guns, which screw or fixing you need when a glue is not the right answer, and hand tools for the knife to cut the nozzle with.
