Which diffuser size for which room?
The most useful number on a diffuser is its coverage area in square metres. Measure the room (length × width) and pick a diffuser rated for at least that size. For open-plan spaces or high ceilings, go one size up.

A few pointers:
- Bedrooms: small is better. The Smart Aroma Diffuser 150 ml covers 30–50 m², is set from your phone and runs on battery or mains power, so it doesn't need to sit next to a socket.

Waterless or water-based?
A water-based (ultrasonic) diffuser mixes a few drops of oil with water and turns it into a visible mist. A waterless diffuser uses no water. Air is pushed through the oil itself to release a fine, dry mist. Both work, but they suit different homes.

In air-conditioned Kuwait homes, waterless diffusers tend to be the more practical choice for bigger rooms: there's no tank to refill every day, no standing water to go stale, and the scent comes through the way it was blended. Many homes use both: a diffuser for the everyday scent of the house and a spray for the odd quick fix. Many Kuwaiti homes also keep bakhoor for guests, and a diffuser works alongside it as a lighter scent between visits.
Where to place your diffuser
Scent follows airflow. The same diffuser can feel strong in one spot and barely noticeable a metre away.
- Raise it a little: a table or shelf at waist to chest height works better than the floor.
- Central, not in a corner: corners trap air. A diffuser near the middle of the room or along a walkway spreads scent more evenly.
- Near airflow, not in it: close to (but not directly under) an AC vent helps carry the scent. Directly in the draught scatters it.
- Nothing in front of it: sofas, curtains and decorations block the mist more than you'd think.
- Doorways help: a diffuser near an open door carries scent into the next room.
Room by room
- Majlis: a central console or side table, away from the direct AC blast. For long majlis rooms, place one unit at each end or use a larger waterless model.
- Living room: on a console at chest height, not behind furniture.
- Bedroom: a few feet from the bed rather than on the nightstand, on a low setting with a timer.
- Entrance and bathroom: small spaces need little output. A compact or cordless diffuser is usually enough.

- Choosing by looks alone without checking the coverage in m².
- One small diffuser for a large open-plan space: coverage drops off quickly beyond its rated size.
- Running it at maximum from day one: it uses up oil fast and can overpower smaller rooms. Start low and adjust.
- Using any oil in a waterless diffuser: use oils made for diffusers. Thick or unsuitable oils can clog the outlet.
- Ignoring noise: for bedrooms and offices, check the noise level or listen to it in the showroom first.
