Buying tips

• A set is cheaper per tool than singles. A 6-piece screwdriver set at 2.750 KD costs less than buying six drivers one at a time, and the 30-piece set at 7.500 KD covers most house jobs in one go.
• Spanners or sockets? Open and ring spanners reach nuts in tight corners. A socket set with a ratchet is faster on anything you can get straight onto, which is why car work usually starts with sockets.
• Match the size range to the job. 8–24 mm covers most household and car fittings; 6–32 mm sets are there for larger machine and site work.
• Handles matter more than you think. Wooden hammer handles are lighter and cheaper; fibreglass handles absorb more of the shock on long jobs. We stock both.
• Measuring: a steel tape for rough work, a caliper when the number has to be exact, and a self-levelling line laser when you are hanging several things on one line.
• Working on wiring? Use a proper wire stripper and crimping tool rather than pliers and a knife — the joint holds better and the insulation stays intact.
