Which length

A 3 metre tape is enough for furniture, shelves, appliance gaps and most joinery. A 5 metre tape is the one to buy if you measure rooms, because it reaches wall to wall in an ordinary room without a second person holding the end. Beyond that, a laser distance meter reads up to 100 m on your own, and for short accurate marking out a steel ruler is steadier than any tape.

What the record does not say
