Drill Bits & Hole Saws

The bits that do the cutting, for whatever the drill is pointed at: masonry and concrete bits for walls, SDS-plus bits and chisels for a rotary hammer, HSS twist bits for steel and aluminium, flat and Forstner bits for wood, spear bits for tile and glass, step bits for sheet, and TCT hole saws. A single masonry shank starts at 0.150 KD, most everyday bits are between 0.250 and 1.500 KD, and the dearest single bit on the page is 7.500 KD.

Which drill bit do you need?

Bit Best for Price
Concrete bits, 6–10 mm Block, brick and concrete walls with a normal drill on hammer setting 0.250–0.650 KD
Concrete bits, 6 / 8 / 10 mm The same job, a second range to compare in the showroom 0.250–0.450 KD
Masonry shank, 6 × 100 mm A single wall bit for one fixing — cheapest item here 0.150 KD
Masonry bits, 6 mm, pack of 10 Buying wall bits by the handful instead of one at a time 0.250 KD
Tile and glass bits, 5–12 mm Ceramic, porcelain and glass — spear tip, no hammer action 0.500–1.150 KD

HSS twist bits, singles, 2–16 mm Replacing the one size you keep breaking from 0.650 KD
HSS cobalt (Co 5%) bits, 3–10 mm Harder steel and stainless, where plain HSS blunts 0.250–1.000 KD

Forstner / hinge boring bit Flat-bottomed holes for concealed cabinet hinges 0.750 KD
Step drill (unibit) set, 3 pieces Several hole sizes in thin sheet metal with one bit 2.750 KD
TCT hole saws, 22–35 mm Round cut-outs for pipes, cables and switch boxes 1.500–2.500 KD
Hole saw arbor, hex shank The holder the hole saw screws onto — buy it once 1.000 KD

Match the bit to the material

  • Wall, block or concrete, ordinary drill: a masonry or concrete bit. From 0.150 KD for a single 6 × 100 mm shank, or 0.250 KD for a pack of 6 mm bits.
  • Concrete with a rotary hammer: SDS-plus, from 0.250 KD. These will not fit a keyless chuck and nothing else will fit an SDS machine.
  • Steel and aluminium: HSS twist bits, from 0.450 KD a pack of ten. Stainless and hardened steel want the cobalt range, 0.250–1.000 KD.
  • Timber: flat bits 0.500–0.750 KD for speed, the Forstner bit 0.750 KD when the bottom of the hole has to be flat — cabinet hinges, mainly.
  • Tile, porcelain, glass: the spear-tip tile and glass bits, 0.500–1.150 KD, drill turning only, hammer off.
  • Thin sheet metal: the 3-piece step drill set at 2.750 KD gives you a range of sizes without a bit per size and without tearing the sheet.
  • A round hole bigger than 20 mm: a TCT hole saw, 1.500–2.500 KD, plus the arbor at 1.000 KD once.

Buying tips

  • SDS-plus is a shank standard, not a brand. Any SDS-plus bit or chisel on this page drops into any SDS-plus rotary hammer, whichever machine you own. If you are still choosing the machine, read what a hammer drill costs in Kuwait or see electric drills and rotary hammers.
  • Buy the size you actually break, by the pack. Most people lose 6 mm and 8 mm bits faster than everything else. A pack of ten is cheaper per bit than replacing singles twice a month.
  • Hammer off for tile and glass. The spear tip cuts by scraping. Hammer action cracks the tile, and once it has cracked no bit will save it.
  • Don't lean on a metal bit. HSS cuts on speed and a little pressure, not force. Blue swarf and a blue tip mean the bit is burning, and a burnt tip never comes back.
  • A chisel is not a bit. The SDS flat and point chisels, 0.450–0.750 KD, are for chipping — tile beds, plaster, a concrete lip. Using a drill bit for that job snaps it.
  • The hole saw arbor is a separate purchase. One arbor at 1.000 KD takes the whole 22–35 mm hole saw range, so buy it once and then buy saws.
  • Depth matters as much as diameter. The SDS range runs to 450 mm long. A 110 mm bit will not reach through a wall no matter how wide it is.

FAQs

How much is a drill bit in Kuwait?

A single masonry shank is 0.150 KD and concrete bits start at 0.250 KD. SDS-plus bits start at 0.250 KD, HSS metal bits at 0.450 KD for a pack of ten, flat wood bits at 0.500 KD and tile and glass bits at 0.500 KD. A 6-piece HSS set is 1.150 KD and TCT hole saws run 1.500–2.500 KD.

Which drill bit should I use on a concrete wall?

If your drill has a hammer setting and a normal chuck, use a masonry or concrete bit, 0.250–0.650 KD. If you have a rotary hammer, use SDS-plus, from 0.250 KD — the shank locks into the machine and the bit does the work instead of your arm. Both are on this page.

Will an SDS bit fit my drill?

Only if the drill takes SDS-plus. SDS has a slotted shank that locks into the tool; a keyed or keyless chuck cannot hold it, and an SDS machine cannot hold a round-shank bit without an adaptor. Check the machine first, or see electric drills and rotary hammers.

What size hole saw do I need, and do I need anything else?

TCT hole saws here are 22, 25, 28, 32 and 35 mm, 1.500–2.500 KD. You also need the arbor at 1.000 KD, which is the shank the saw screws onto — one arbor covers all five sizes.

Can I drill into tile without cracking it?

Use a spear-tip tile and glass bit, 0.500 KD and up, with the hammer action switched off and the drill turning slowly. Mark the spot and start gently; the tip needs to bite the glaze before you add any pressure.

Also useful: the full hand tools range, electric drills and rotary hammers for the machine itself, and cutting discs, blades and hole saws.
