Cutting a day's worth of PVC by hand is what ruins a plumber's grip. A ratchet cutter needs six or eight squeezes per cut and a hacksaw leaves a burred, out-of-square end that has to be deburred before it will seat in a fitting. This one does the whole cut on a trigger pull — the stainless steel blade drives through PVC pipe up to 40 mm in a single pass, as many times as the battery lasts.

The hooked jaw wraps the pipe and holds it square while the blade shears across it, so the cut face comes off clean and perpendicular with no swarf, no dust and nothing to sweep up afterwards. A 600W brushless motor supplies the force with fewer wearing parts than a brushed one, and the 21V lithium battery slides into the base, so there's no lead to run out to a riser, a ceiling void or the bottom of a trench.

Light enough to work one-handed and overhead, with a moulded finger guard ahead of the grip. Suited to plumbing first and second fix, irrigation lines, conduit and drain work, and to any workshop cutting PVC in volume. Keep the blade clean and it will keep cutting square.
